Book Editing

Structural editing

Structural editing is the 30-thousand-foot view of the book manuscript you’ve already written. It focuses on the big picture, the structure of your material, the flow of the content and any gaps in the information that might be important to the reader.

You need a thick skin to work with me as an editor, as I pull no punches. I’m ruthless in my commentary, as that’s the only way to produce the best book possible — you owe it to your readers as well as yourself.

I’ll produce a written report, with commentary on your book’s strengths and weaknesses, and what you need to do to get it ready for publication. Then we’ll have a follow-up conversation by phone to discuss the report. If you wish, you can resubmit the manuscript after you’ve made the changes.

Copy editing

This is the nitty-gritty editing, where I straighten out your tangled sentences, get your messy paragraphs back into flow and clean up your grammar.

Note: I do NOT do proofreading. Believe me, you don’t want me proofing your book because I am the world’s worst proofreader. I use professional proofreaders for my own books, and you should do the same.

Fees

I will quote you a fee for editing after I understand the length and complexity of your manuscript.
